    The Role:

    This individual is an expert on the design, simulation, software implementation, and qualification of algorithms for signal detection & classification.  An expert who understands the characteristics of a wide variety of terrestrial and satellite communications systems and radar signals and methods to detect these signals at low signal-to-noise ratios.  This individual with work with other systems engineers and hardware/RF engineers to implement and verify spectrum sensing solutions in software defined radio platforms, implementing complex signal processing designs on embedded processors (e.g., ARMs, DSPs) that interface with an FPGA or ASIC.  The candidate will also help determine how sensing results are used in an overall shared spectrum solution, implement chosen techniques, and conduct lab/field experiments to validate.  To this end, the candidate will leverage knowledge of direction finding, geolocation, collaborative sensing, RF propagation, radio environment maps, and in-depth knowledge of various 3GPP and IEEE radio access technologies.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, simulation, software implementation, and qualification of algorithms for signal detection & classification
    • Work closely with other system engineers and hardware (FPGA/ASIC) and RF engineers for implementation
    • Creates and/or specifies labs for system test & performance evaluation, conducts lab and field testing to optimize design and verify performance
    • Creates system architecture, functional and design specifications
    • Reports status against project plan

    Qualifications

    • In-depth knowledge of communication & signal processing theories
    • In-depth understanding of the cognitive radio, SDR, and signal detection & classification
    • Expert knowledge of radar & satellite signal processing techniques
    • Able to design & implement distributed computing algorithms
    • Experience in one or more programming languages & concepts required: Matlab, Simulink, C/C++, Java, Python
    • Experience working in an agile (scrum) development environment
    • Experience with software defined radio (SDR) implementations and testing, e.g., fixed-point designs, embedded processing (real-time implementations, source control), laboratory equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers)
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated experience defining system architecture for wireless products
    • Masters or Ph.D Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with Ph.D preferred

    • Travel may be required as deemed necessary to the growth and expansion of the Company
