     An Opportunity to Invent and Innovate

     Hawk Eye 360’s Processing Team is seeking a Software Signal Processing developer who’s ready to design and implement Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and geolocation algorithms. You’ll write code that executes on the payload of our small, LEO satellites as they speed through space collecting RF signals. And once those collections are downlinked to earth, you’ll implement advanced processing in a cloud environment to generate geolocation data that feeds our analytics pipeline.


    Our algorithms are mathematically rigorous. You’ll be mentored by a world class team who can help you build upon your academic and professional background to address challenges and opportunities only available at HawkEye360.


    A heterogenous processing environment is required to deliver our RF data products including embedded Linux, FPGAs, and cloud computing resources. We program in C++, Python, and Verilog, and we leverage the GNU Radio open source software toolkit. Our developers utilize a complex system-level test bed to simulate RF signals that precisely mimic what our satellites see on-orbit. This enables the characterization, optimization, and regression test of algorithms in advance of their deployment into space-based and ground-based production systems. We regularly participate in signal collection exercises using aircraft and terrestrial vehicles to ensure that our simulations match reality.


    Our signal processing code sits in the center of the HawkEye360 pipeline, tightly integrated to sensors on our spacecraft and to an analytics pipeline that synthesizes our geolocation and RF data products into a format that our government and commercial customers can consume. We rapidly iterate on our design and interfaces, requiring frequent and effective communication throughout our engineering organization. We need engineers who are curious about big picture concepts and also possess the design skills to make them a reality.


    We’ll Expect You To…  

    • Contribute to software and firmware architecture definition, including processing and geolocation elements and interfaces between modules.
    • Take personal responsibility for algorithm simulation, design, implementation, and verification with guidance from the senior technical staff and Director of Processing.
    • Utilize our automated build and test system to be sure your code meets functional and performance expectations and that it doesn’t break any existing functionality.
    • Contribute to development infrastructure enhancements to ensure we are using the best tools to ensure quality and a smooth transition to production.


    You’ll Need to Have…

    • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field (mathematics, physics, computer science). Relevant work experience and B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field will be considered if determined to be equivalent.
    • Professional experience in an engineering development environment (full time, co-op, or internship)
    • Experience designing digital signal processing and wireless communications algorithms.
    • Demonstrated experience in software development as part of a team with object-oriented concepts using Python, C, and C++.
    • Experience simulating, testing and troubleshooting DSP algorithms and systems.
    • Ability to work with a diverse team of developers and engineers.
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
    • Solid written and oral communication.

     We’d Like to See…

    • Verilog and/or VHDL and general FPGA design experience.
    • Embedded or high-performance computing experience, especially using ARM processors and SIMD instructions.
    • Experience with geolocation algorithms and/or measuring geolocation results.
    • Experience with communications and/or software defined radio and software packages such as GNU Radio.
    • Digital and analog HW design and development.
